Making Different Plans To Honor Fallen Veterans On Memorial Day

WAOW Television

The Wausau American Legion Post 10 place flags around the graves of fallen soldiers at Restlawn Memorial park on Wednesday.

Some veterans wore masks, gloves, some social distanced, and everyone paid respect to the fallen.

Restlawn has canceled its annual Memorial Day program, explaining the CDC guidelines recommending against gatherings of 10 or more people.

Still, the memorial park is hoping families will contribute to a virtual tribute.

“We knew that we still needed to do something to pay our respects to them.  We figured why not try to put together a video of every veteran that we can, so that we can honor those who served” said Amber Pender, the Office Manager at Restlawn.

They’ve been collecting clips from families, putting together a video that will be released on Memorial Day.

Vietnam Veteran Art Kroeplin hoped people would do what they can to recognize those who served.

“If you’ve got a flag put it up.  If not, buy one, they’re not that expensive”, said Kroeplin.

Memorial Day is Monday.
