They've made good progress but need a final fundraising push to get to the goal.

Located in downtown Three Lakes, the Three Lakes Center for the Arts has undertaken a literal roof raising to preserve the historic building that houses so much of the communties' cultural offerings. Three Lakes Center for the Arts President Collette Sorgel says they had major leakage coming into the building through the roof.

The building is a quonset hut and has a unique roof design. She says the first phase is going to be completed by the end of the year...

"....At the end of this year, the dormers will be taken off, the roof will be secured. Next year, we'll check everything out, reinforce seams on the quonset hut and put a seal over it for roofing. We're looking forward to having a dry theater again..."

Sorgel says they have a ways to go to reach their fundraising goal...

"We just hit 126(thousand dollars) toward the 225 so we only have $99,000 to go. We have had some very generous donors and we've had community support that has been amazing. We're thrilled how far we've gotten. But you know how fundraising is, $99,000 is still a lot more to get..."

She says they've reached out to local and statewide organizations to find donors interested in helping out. Sorgel says while the Town of Three Lakes has a population of about 3,000, they have an equivalent number of patrons. She says they do up to 30 live performances a year and have a number of other activities each year.

They also offer the center for community groups.
