I grew up listening to Classical music on the radio in Chicago (WFMT and (old) WNIB). Beautiful music and the stories behind it. I try, in my small way, to emulate those broadcasts at WXPR. I never believed I would have the chance. I occasionally host WXPR’s Midday Classics and Classics By Request shows.

I first discovered WXPR’s unique voice while vacationing in the Northwoods. Then, when my husband and I moved to Rhinelander from New York City 24 years ago, I appreciated WXPR all the more for its amazing coverage of local news and diverse music programs hosted by dedicated volunteers. For 13 years I had the pleasure of serving as a volunteer host for Blues Friday, and currently volunteer as a substitute host for Sunday Jazz. I’ve also had the honor, as a retired journalist, of volunteering for Ken Krall as a news reporter. And most important, I am very happy to be serving for a second time on the Board of Directors.

Emily’s love of music brought her to public radio, where she found her love for news. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she began her career in 2003 at WFIU Public Radio in Bloomington, Indiana, producing and hosting music and news programs and learning the behind-the-scenes work of public broadcasting. She joined WYSO in 2007 as the host of “All Things Considered” and jumped head first into news gathering. Emily’s been relishing it ever since-her reporting has earned her numerous AP Awards and a nationally recognized Gabriel Award. WYSO has been a fulfilling and exciting place for Emily, where she is privileged to work with a creative and supportive staff.
