City Administrator Wants Rhinelander Council To Consider Changes

Wikimedia Commons Royalbroil

Rhinelander City Administrator Daniel Guild this week talked to the common council about possibly changing how the council conducts its business. He presented a number of options for the council to consider including committee structure and nature of some committees.

Guild cited the city's Economic Development committee which has been inactive. Guild says the state allows for a redevelopment authority or a community development authority.

"...I thought economic development was an easy one. We have an economic development committee that does not meet, nor do we have an RDA or CDA in place unlike more pro-active cities across Wisconsin doing more work with economic development..."

He says one option if the council approved a change to an RDA or CDA was to consolidate some of the activities into a larger structured committee, such as putting the economic development committee and planning, for instance, under one umbrella group.

Guild requested a special council meeting for next Monday night to take input from council members about what the council would like to see done concerning structure of government and long term goals.

The council also approved going after the type of borrowing necessary to pay for the proposed Stevens Street reconstruction, a larger project than was done when the streets in the downtown were reconstructed in 2016.
