Rhinelander SD Fab Lab Expanding Public Participation

Rhinelander School District is offering the public an expanded chance to learn and do in its state-of-the-art Fab Lab.

A fabrication laboratory is a small-scale workshop offering digital fabrication. The lab is typically equipped with an array of flexible computer-controlled tools covering several different length scales and various materials, with the aim to make technology-enabled products.

School district spokesperson Mike Cheslock says it's a more in-depth approach...

"....the Hodag Fab Lab at the high school is useable now by the students, but we wanted to make it available to the community as well. Right now there are community hours but we wanted to create more of a specific learning opportunity for the public so we created a community ed class called 'Fab Lab Exploration'. That's going to be taking place later in December..."

Cheslock says you don't have to have high-tech skills to enroll...

"....You'll have hours of being able to utilize the equipment. There will be an instructor Mike Wojtusiak from the high school leading the class. All the materials are included in the class fee as well. I've been told it's pretty easy to use the equipment especially when guided by the instructor. You don't need to be an expert to be in this class, in fact we encourage people who don't know a lot about it to enroll so they learn something from it...."

There is a fee to enroll. Pre-registration is required by December 14.  Cheslock says to visit the school district website for more information Paper registration is available by mail or drop off. If you have questions, please contact Cheslock at 715-365-9745.
