Dept. of Tourism

An event in Boulder Junction has received a large state marketing grant.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism awarded the Chamber of Commerce a Joint Effort Marketing grant for $15,000 to promote the Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon February 16.

Executive Director Theresa Smith describes the event..

"...The Forest Frenzy Winter Triathlon, this is our second year, is a 7.5K cross-country ski course. You can choose the classic ski or skate ski. They will also do a 5K snowshoe and 7.5K fat tire bike This is all headquartered at Camp Manitowish here in Boulder Junction. We utilize the trails in camp and also those in the Northern-Highland American Legion State Forest...."

JEM grants are designed to market the event in the Midwest. Theresa Smith says the event last year started well....

"..The event went extremely well. We had just over 70 participants and they were just gushing about the course and how well it was groomed. How nice it was to be on the wilderness trails. The coziness of the Leadership Center at Camp Manitowish and of course the always welcoming volunteers we have here at Boulder Junction...."

This year, grant funds will go towards digital and print marketing to attract experienced triathletes and winter sport athletes from the entire Midwest and beyond. The event is anticipated to attract 350 attendees.
