WXPR Fundraiser To Also Benefit Area Food Pantries

Many non-profits this time of year ask for an end-of-year gift to keep their efforts going forward. WXPR is no different. We're hosting a one-day fundraiser Thursday(12/13) and your donation could help area food pantries. Pledges to WXPR of $120 dollars or more will give the person pledging the option of waiving a premium and the value of that premium will be donated on your behalf to a local food pantry.

At the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, Executive Director Guy Hansen says they're close to meeting goal on the "Seed Money" challenge...

"..We're getting close to the goal of $4,500....That will enable us to do several things with the greenhouse that we weren't able to do before including solar activated sun screens so we can raise things in the summer so it doesn't get too hot. Plus some heating so we can extend into the spring and the fall....."

The Seed Money challenge to get the money to have a year-round greenhouse ends on December 15.

He says this time of the year is critical to generate the funds to keep things going...

"...This is the time of the year when we generate most of the money that gets us through the rest of the year. When you get into spring and summer, donations fall off pretty dramatically. But during the fall and winter people are generous and that's when we get most of our funding...."

You don't have to waive the pledge premium, but if you do, the value goes to local food pantries across the Northwoods.  If you wish to pledge, our number is 715-362-6000. If you pledge online(check out the donate button on the front page)  let us know that you're waiving a premium and want it to go to local food pantries.
