About 17 percent of children in the Northwoods live below the poverty level.

Rhinelander High School FBLA/DECA are working on a service activity called Jeans for Teens.

Through January 8, the group will be collecting gently used jeans and giving them to teens and others in the community who need them.

School District of Rhinelander student Abigail Krueger outlines the effort...

"Jeans For Teens is a city-wide jean drive. Members of FBLA/DECA asks the public to bring in jeans, small, old, different colors. They will use any condition. Bring them to different locations around town. ..."

Krueger says any size or condition is accepted... "

...Later in January we take the jeans to Frederick Place(homeless shelter) for the residents and we store the jeans there. Anything is appreciated even if it's too worn out to wear, they cut them up for rags. There's a use for every pair of jeans. We're encouraging the community to come together around the holiday season especially if people are getting new jeans because of the holiday season. Now is the perfect time to get rid of the older ones..."

Krueger says they collected 600 pairs of jeans last year.

Dropoff locations besides the schools include Maurice’s, Rhinelander District Library, A La Mode, Bath and Body Creations, Dawn’s Lakeside Resort, Shopko and Coffee Beans. If you want more information is available by contacting Rhinelander high school.
