The Wisconsin Arts Board is meeting in the Northwoods Friday and Saturday and the public can sit in on their meetings and activities.

The Board is the state agency which promotes the arts, and supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development, and serves as a resource for people.

The board will be making stops in Hurley, Mercer, Manitowish Waters, Lac du Flambeau, and Minocqua and Saturday in Boulder Junction.

Executive Director George Tzougros says there are three opportunities to interact with the Arts Board..

"...Friday(morning) at 11:45 at the Community Center in Manitowish Waters. Bring your brown bag lunch and see us there. Friday, we'll be at the Campanile Center in Minocqua for an informal reception and opportunity for people in the general community and meet the Arts Board and hear what is going on. Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. we'll be at the Trout Lake Station in Boulder Junction having our business meeting...."

Tzougros says the board has 15 members appointed by the Governor and their responsibility is to do policy and planning for the arts in Wisconsin. Tzougros says it's important for the board to see the arts community in the north...

"...To underscore the power of these meetings up state, it's important to see what is going on, so as they're making their policy and plans they have a full, rich picture of the State of Wisconsin..."

We'll have a longer interview with George Tzougros Saturday morning during WXPR Saturday Edition beginning at 8:35 a.m.
