10th Annual CANtastic Build Set For Saturday At Rouman Cinema

Rhinelander Area Food Pantry

You can witness how a bunch of food will transform into a creative build as Saturday is the annual CANtastic event to benefit the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry.

Food Pantry Executive Director Guy Hansen says the theme for this year's event is "On The Road To Ending Hunger". Teams plan a display of canned or boxed food to look like what you would see on a road trip. It's the 10th year CANtastic has been held...

"We have them on display at the Rouman Cinema for two weeks. The build day is Saturday and we'll have six teams. They're building their structures and then they'll be judged. We have three different prizes we award. One is the Judge's Selection, one is People's Choice and one is using the most cans following the theme."

Hansen says the public is invited to Rouman Cinema to watch the build Saturday morning and over the two weeks the structures will be on display... "When they're going to a movie, or not, you can come and take a look at the structures and vote on the one you like...just come when the theater is open and they will let you take a look at the structures...it's right in the lobby."

The display will close on March 7 and then all the non-perishable food will be donated to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry, which routinely totals between 3,000 and 5,000 pounds of food.

The build will take place Saturday(2-22-2020) from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
