Groundbreaking For 23rd Habitat For Humanity Northwoods Home

Habitat For Humanity Northwoods

Groundbreaking for the next Habitat For Humanity Northwoods home is Friday in Vilas county. The organization serves Oneida and Vilas counties.

Habitat Executive Director Dave Havel talks about the latest build...

"This is the 23rd home we've build over the years. So in 2020 we're calling if, "Build 23" and this is going to occur this year in Phelps, Wisconsin..."

The 1200 square foot home is going to be on a heated slab with an attached garage. Havel says the home is not far from downtown Phelps. The new owners are Cory and Rebecca Robbins of Phelps...

"As we typically do with Habitat homes, they're agreeing to help build the home themselves, they put in sweat equity, that is part of the agreement with the Habitat families and they're looking forward to that..."

Havel says because of the COVID-19 outbreak, fewer volunteers will be working on this home. He says they will be using more contractor help to build the home along with family and friends. Havel says it usually takes about six months to build the home depending on volunteers and the amount of donations that come in.

Havel says if anyone wants to help, either in person or with a donation to contact him through the ReStore outlet on West Kemp Street in Rhinelander or call Havel at 715-420-0412.
