Still Time For Year End Tax Planning

There's still a few things you can do to save yourself from the tax bite before 2014 comes this Wednesday .

Certified Public Accountant Mary Schwaiger from Reach and Schwaiger in Eagle River...

"....if you're itemizing deductions, it does make sense to make more charitable contributions before the end of the year, pay your property taxes ahead of time. Paying the property taxes also gives you a credit on the state of Wisconsin, so that helps on both ends..."

She says next year will usher in some sweeping tax changes...

"....there are some significant changes coming up in 2014. One thing to remember is with the filing season is the IRS is not going to be accepting tax returns from individuals, they're saying, until January 31 because of the government shutdown..."

Mary Schwaiger says filing has become so complicated you should consider having your taxes done by a professional.

We'll have more information about year end tax facts at 7:35 a.m. 12/30/2013 after For The Birds.
