Employers, Job Seekers Invited To State Career Expo

en.wikipedia.org

Employers looking for help and job hunters looking for work are invited to a large career expo in Stevens Point next month.

Department of Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson announced the fair last week. Newson says it will be the first in central Wisconsin.

Kristine Porter is the District Director of Workforce Development based in Wausau....

".....a unique aspect about a Career Expo is that all the job seekers have gone through a pre-screening process where they will have a current and updated resume; they will have a little bit of a script to say about themselves; they will be ready from an appearance standpoint..."

She says job seekers must do some work prior to the event. They need to be registered on the state site...job center of Wisconsin dot com....

".....and that is going to give them the opportunity to create a resume and create a profile for themselves. Then they do a very short self-assessment survey. They can take that to any job center in the area and meet with an employment and training specialist who will then talk with them about the pre-screening items on the checklist...."

Porter says all employers there will be posting open jobs at the EXPO. She says they still have room for more employers looking for workers.

The Career Expo is Tuesday, September 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Stevens Point.
