Lakeland School Board Commits To Phase 3 Project

The Lakeland Union High School Board Monday committed three-quarters of a million dollars to a “starting fund” towards renovating the school’s outdoor sports facilities.

The board also created a fundraising committee whose goal will be to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations for the project. At that morning’s buildings and grounds committee, Chairman Ed Schaub said the fundraising committee would have to start immediately to engage the community..

"....This ad hoc committee is going to have to be very active. We can’t meet every month. It’s going to have to be twice, maybe even three times a month. We just have to stay on top of this. We can’t drag our feet on this.."

Known as Phase 3, the proposed renovation project calls for a new grandstand, lockers, concessions stand and restrooms. The projected cost is $2.3 million with $750,000 now coming from the fund balance account.
