en.wikipedia.org

A group opposed to more legal gambling in Wisconsin is hosting a statewide tele-town hall Monday.

Citizens Against Expanded Gambling in Wisconsin will host the live event says spokesperson Lorrie Pickens to let the public hear that not everyone favors more gambling in Wisconsin. She says supporters talk about adding jobs and governments like the added revenue, but she says gambling offers a different kind of growth...

"...a couple of things to note, not all jobs are created equal. Economic development is good and jobs are good but some jobs are not good for a community or for an economy.... "

Pickens says few supporters factor in the costs of legal gambling, like the costs of addiction treatment. She says supporters talk about adding jobs and governments like the added revenue, but she says gambling offer problems including added costs for addiction...

"....the costs of addiction and the social impacts to communities with crime and DUI and other things. The decrease in property values actually cost more than the benefit it brings in revenue and jobs...."

Pickens says the tele-town hall will provide two speakers opposed to more gambling.  Congressman Glen Grothman has been vocal in his opposition to more gambling and Les Bernal, National Director To Stop Predatory Gambling will be on the program. The event is open to the public and the panelists will take questions.

The tele-town hall is Monday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m.
