Veterans Day Observance Held In Rhinelander

WXPR

Veterans Day falls on Sunday this year, so a ceremony was held Friday morning in the snow in front of the Oneida County Courthouse.

The keynote speaker was Rhinelander Mayor Chris Frederickson, who said few people know the sacrifice veterans give for all of us...

"Our historical collections allow us to share terrific stories, including the stories of our greater Northwoods veterans. My grandfather was veteran. No one liked to talk about conflicts and solving them. But I can tell you the parts that come out about veterans are loyalty, honor and uncommon bravery. They understand sacrifice and cost to the degrees we don't...."

Members of Rhinelander VFW post 3143 saluted American's veterans with an Honor Guard.

The event was moderated by Oneida County Veterans Service Officer Tammy Javenkoski. The person who had the job before her, Cindy Pitts, now of American Legion Post 7,  gave the invocation and benediction and the Nativity Catholic Junior High singers sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful.

Other ceremonies are planned throughout the weekend in the region
