Info Session Set To Get Military Members Into Local Jobs

Dept. of Defense

Grow North Regional Economic Development Corporation is hosting an event next month to outline an effort to pair up employers with military service members as they transition to civilian life. The effort also attracts potential employees from out-of-state to Wisconsin.

Grow North Executive Director Brittany Beyer outlines the Mission Wisconsin program.

"We're inviting WEDC to the Northwoods to talk about their "Mission Wisconsin Talent Pipeline" program they've been running. They started it this past year. We have a number of veteran's families in the area, but this program is set up specifically to recruit from people in the military service who are just about to exit and to show off what we have for businesses in the area...."

Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Department of Workforce Development announced Mission Wisconsin in late November.

Brittany Beyer says the program has businesses enter job openings to the program and then markets the openings to prospective military members leaving service across the nation...

"There are a number of incentives we have for hiring veterans in Wisconsin. This is another opportunity to get more veterans here and using their skill sets right here in the Northwoods...."

After each transition summit, the Wisconsin delegation will provide companies with access to vetted résumés for transitioning veterans and their spouses who may be a good match for those openings.

Beyer says Northwoods business owners are invited to an information session about Mission Wisconsin at Nicolet College in Rhinelander January 10 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the college's Fireside Center.
