Free Tax Return Aid Available In Rhinelander

Tax season is arriving and locally trained volunteers are waiting to offer free help.

Volunteers will provide help with 2018 federal and state income tax and Wisconsin Homestead Credit preparation says AARP Tax Aid Program spokesperson Bill Vancos.

Rhinelander is one of 14,000 sites in the nation offering the service. He says the IRS supplies the software for the program. The AARP Foundation pays for the computers and supplies that are needed.

There are 9 trained volunteers at Rhinelander...

"The volunteers have to go through a training. We were just up in Minocqua for two days on training. We have to pass a test to be certified that the IRS provides. We're pretty much ready to go, I guess...."

He outlines the people who would benefit from this program...

"Our target group is low-to-moderate income and over age 60. That doesn't mean we won't do taxes for other people, it's just the group that we're aiming for...."

Bill Vancos says the AARP Foundation funders what a priority put on low-and-moderate income filers and people over age 60. The service is provided at the ACRC of the Northwoods in Trig's Riverwalk Centre by appointment only every Monday and Wednesday during February and March.

Vancos says contact the ADRC (715-369-6170) to make an appointment.
