State Secretary Says More Veterans Should Use Benefits

Wisconsin.gov

Listening intently last week to Governor Evers State of the State address was Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Mary Kolar.

Stopping in Rhinelander last week, Kolar said Evers strongly recommended improving education programs, especially for veterans. Kolar says this is a key way to improve veteran's lives...

"...I'm pleased that once again our Governor is emphasizing an investment in Wisconsin schools. That will help veterans. And I'm very pleased with the bipartisan support of veterans in Wisconsin. Our economic impact here by the benefits and services that veterans have earned by their military service is a contribution to their local community...."

Kolar says an issue is getting veterans to accept the benefits they have earned....

"...emphasize that Wisconsin veterans and their families find out what benefits and services they're entitled to. Again, economic impact is has on them personally and for the health benefits they've earned. To call 1-800-WISVETS or work with their county veterans service officers to find out about the benefits and services they earned...."

Wisconsin has more than 350,000 veterans. The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs claims representatives represent about 20,000 claims and bring about $400 million in economic benefit to the state in 2018.
