Veterans Invited To Hear About New Physician Contact Options and Smoking Cessation

Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center

Northwoods veterans who use the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center are invited to an open house next week in Iron Mountain focusing on healthcare.

Facility spokesperson John Jamison outlines some of the topics..

"...The VA Video Connect, a new way to connect with their(health) providers using video technology. (Using) their smartphones, laptops, tablets or home computers as long as they have a camera on them. Another item we'll focus on is the Medical Center will become a smoke-free facility on October 1st..."

A third topic describes possible benefits due to water contamination at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carollina. It's for servicemembers and families at the base between 1953 and 1987.

Jamison says they also will talk about veterans who wish to quit smoking...

"...The policy restricts smoking by patients, visitors, volunteers, contractors, vendors at our healthcare facilities. VA providers that specialize in smoking cessation will also be there to discuss resources if veterans want to quit smoking...."

For veterans unable to come in person to the town hall, it will be streamed live on the VA Medical Center's Facebook page, and the video will be posted after the event.

The town hall is Tuesday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. The VA Medical Center is located at 325 East H Street in Iron Mountain.
