October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is holding its annual Candlelight Vigil on Friday, October 11, at 7:00p.m. at the Oneida County Courthouse and you can help out.
Melissa Kropidlowski is Domestic Violence Program Coordinator for Tri-County Council. She says Tri-County staff and members of the community will be reading the 2018 domestic violence homicide report...
"...It's a candlelight vigil, this year we're calling it the 'Remember My Name' project. We will be reading each victim's name as well as lighting candles and having a moment of silence..."
Kropidlowski says they will be reading the names of the 37 victims. She says while the 2018 report found a decrease in homicides, 2019 will be much different...
"...I believe we're at 62 right now, so the report next year will be rather extensive. But from 2017-2018 it was down..."
Kropidlowski says they need of people to register to read a name at the courthouse vigil. If you would like to participate, you're asked to call her at Tri-County at 715-362-6841. She says they will also be putting the vigil out as it happens via Facebook Live.
