Northwoods United Way Offering Free Facemasks This Week

Following up on a successful first round, the Northwoods United Way is hosting another drive-thru facemask giveaway.

Northwoods United Way Executive Director Nancy Sattler reports the first giveaway used funds donated specifically for virus-related projects. The success means they will do a second event...

"We had great success with the first mask giveaway we did, in fact, we ran out at all locations within a half-hour. We gave out about 7 thousand masks and therefore we decided to do another one. We want to make sure everybody gets a chance to get some masks..."

The masks are single use masks and are intended to be properly discarded after use. A best practices sheet will be included with each packet of masks. Sattler says they've made a few changes...

"This time we're giving them away in packets of 15. Every car that comes up will get a packet of 15 disposable facemasks. They don't get out of the car. We just hand them through the window or passenger window and then they can keep going..."

The giveaway is set for Thursday, June 4th starting at 9 am. at the Associated Bank locations in Crandon, Rhinelander, Eagle River and the Chippewa Street location in Minocqua.

Funding for the mask give-away is made possible by donations to the Northwoods United Way Covid-19 Community Response Fund. Sattler says donations to the fund will help continue more relief support.
