Public Hearing In August On Shoreland Zoning Rules

greatlakesecho.org

The DNR is hosting a public hearing in Tomahawk next month to get input on proposed changes in the shoreland zoning rules.

After revising the rules in 2009...known as NR115... some counties have complained the new rules would be difficult to implement and enforce.

The agency has several changes proposed, says Deputy Division Manager Russ Rassmussen...

"....so we've met with them over the past couple of years and recognized some revisions that will make the rule more straightforward, a little more flexible for counties..."

The DNR says the changes propose greater flexibility for properties along developed shorelines. One sticking point has been the amount of impervious surface, or areas where rain will not soak into the ground. Runoff from impervious surfaces is said to cause water quality degredation. Another change is on expanding properties near the water.

Rassmussen says as part of the new rulemaking, four public hearings will be held. The one for this area will be at the Rodeway Inn and Suites in Tomahawk on August 22 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. More information on the meeting is on the DNR website.
