State Confirms CWD Deer Found In Forest County

National Park Service

A white-tail buck from a hunting ranch in Forest county has been found to be carrying chronic wasting disease.

The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumper Protection confirmed the deer was born on a breeding ranch in Marinette county and was moved to the 230-acre ranch  in 2014.

Both the breeding farm in Marinette county and the hunt ranch in Forest county have been quarantined since last June because the breeding farm tested positive for CWD. Both locations have the same owner.

The state will meet with the owner to determine if changes are needed to the existing herd plan.

DATCP regulates deer farms for registration, disease testing and other permit requirements.
