Low-Income Heating Assistance Available For Customers Who Qualify

As the end of the winter moratorium nears, Wisconsin Public Service is urging customers who are behind on their bills to take advantage of their Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.  State law protects anyone’s utilities from being shut off during the moratorium period.

Public Relations Manager Lisa Prunty says customers should call sooner rather than later to set up a payment plan. She says even if people aren’t sure they qualify, it doesn’t hurt to check.

“…the income guidelines for 2015-16, you can have a household size of 1 and your income is 25,601 dollars annually. They could then apply for the assistance and see if they’re available. If they go on the website they can see the household size from 1 up to 8.”

Prunty says only people who aren’t behind in paying their heating bills can qualify for the program. She says people can call their local agencies or check the Home Energy Plus website to check out the income guidelines.

The winter moratorium ends April 15.  For more information visit homeenergyplus.wi.gov
