Local musicians will stand in solidarity with tribal people Friday night to honor and raise money for the protesters standing at the frontline of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Paco Fralick is one of the organizers and is an Ojibwe singer/songwriter. He will sing songs like “Where Were You?” that raise questions about the environment and our responsibility to preserve it for generations to come.
“I think this is a great way to bring a positive energy towards this topic. So much is disturbing that you see put out on the media, and it can be kind of hard for people to look at it and they get bombarded with negativity and so I’m hoping this comes at it from a positive informational viewpoint and draws people into it that way…”
Fralick has put together a lineup of tribal dancers, speakers who have been at the frontline, and seven musicians; one of those being local singer/songwriter Scott Kirby…
“..Basically it’s an opportunity for folks to come together to learn a little bit more about the situation that happening as well as share in mindful prayer and song and dance to show their solidarity and support.”
Also featured at the benefit will be Kelly Jackson, Bobby Bullet and others.
Fralick says the money raised will go to the indigenous environmental justice group, Honor the Earth.
The fundraiser is 6:30 Friday, December 2 at the Rhinelander High School Auditorium. Tickets are 10 in advance or 15 at the door. Visit Paco Fralick's website for more information.
