Minocqua Man Accused Of Killing Wife Wants Bench Trial

ONEIDA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

The Minocqua man accused of killing his wife more than 35 years ago is waiving his right to a jury trial.

The lawyer for Robin Mendez filed the petition Wednesday in Oneida County Circuit Court.  The 69-year-old man from Minocqua is scheduled to face first-degree intentional homicide charges in a trial starting next April.

The body of Barbara Mendez was found at the credit union where she worked in 1982.  She had been beaten to death.  If Mendez gets the bench trial he's asking for, a judge would make the determination of guilt or innocence.
