Sokaogon Chippewa Community Announces Temporary Closure of Cenex Convenience Store & Smoke Shop

SOKAOGON CHIPPEWA COMMUNITY MOLE LAKE BAND OF LAKE SUPERIOR CHIPPEWA INDIANS

The Sokaogon Cenex Convenience Store and Smoke Shop in Mole Lake will be closed to the general public starting Wednesday, September 2. The closure will be in place through October 11.

The Sokaogon Chippewa Community said the C-store will still be open to Mole Lake Community members.

A public information officer with the community told WXPR the temporary closure was due to COVID-19 concerns and the upcoming races at the Crandon International Raceway.

In August, the Sokaogon Chippewa Community asked the raceway to cancel its upcoming races. It fears the thousands of spectators that usually attend the races will bring and spread the virus in Forest County. The races are still going forward with the first weekend of racing Labor Day weekend.

The public information officer said the goal of the temporary C-Store closure is keep the virus out of the Mole Lake Community.

The C-Store will now be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for Mole Lake Community members and SCC employees and spouses. The Highway 55 entrance will be blocked off and there will be no parking in front of the C-Store.

The people that are allowed inside will have their temperature checked before entering. No more than five customers will be allowed in the store at one time. People will be required to wear masks and social distance inside.
