Minocqua Town Board, LUHS Agree to School Resource Officer Contract

The Minocqua town board has agreed to sign the school resource officer contract after a major concession was made earlier by the Lakeland Union High School board of education.

Yesterday’s approval came after the school board said it would pick up the officer’s salary and benefit package in the event the high school closes due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

The agreement comes before both bodies each year with little or no disagreement. Basically, the school district picks up the officer’s cost for nine months while school is in session; the town pays for the remaining three months’.

However, this year the town board said it wasn’t going to pay anything in the event of a school closure. After the issue was tossed back to the school board, that body last month said it would continue paying those costs.

In the only other agenda item, the town extended “no parking” for a portion of Lakeview Drive where a new hotel had been proposed, as well as for Huber Lane from Lakeview Drive to U.S. Highway 51.

The town board is currently holding budget preparation meetings with various departments and organizations that receive financial support from the town.
