Eagle River Ice Palace, Christmas Tree Location Changed

Eagle River Chamber of Commerce

The location of the traditional Christmas tree and ice castle has been changed by the Eagle River city council approving moving the location from the railroad depot area to the recently purchased former Seyfert’s Eagle River Service Center lot on the corner of Wall and Second Street.

Eagle River Chamber of Commerce director Kim Emerson suggested the change with support from
council member Jerry Burkett.

“I think this is an excellent idea and it will bring more people downtown,” Burkett said. “There is
plenty of room for the large tree along with a Santa mailbox and the ice palace built by the fire department.”

The tree could be put up by the city crew and when asked about getting power for tree lights and the ice palace, Light & Water director Mike Sanborn said “we will make it work.” Signs directing snowmobiles and others to the new location will be explored.

The council also approved smaller Christmas trees to be placed on light poles.
