More people are hunting deer this season.
The DNR release preliminary license sale date Tuesday.
As of Monday, November 23, sales for gun, bow, crossbow, sports, and patron licenses reach 810,233. Of the those, 559,591 were for gun hunting licenses.
That’s an increase of 3.2% from the same time last year.
The DNR said the biggest increase has been in women buying hunting licenses. Nearly 90,000 license sales were those for women, an increase of 9% from last year.
One area did a see a decrease. Non-resident license sales are done. The DNR attributes that to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the total licenses sold, 58% were sold online, and 42% were sold by DNR license agents, which includes private businesses across the state.
Final license sales figures will be available in January, at which time DNR staff will perform a thorough analysis and interpretation.
