Stevens Point to Host USGA Senior Open in 2023

Stevens Point will host the 2023 USGA Senior Open Championship, bringing some 75 thousand spectators to town for a week.

Mayor Mike Wiza was over the moon after Wednesday's announcement.

“We’re looking at 7,500 room nights.  The estimated economic impact to central Wisconsin is estimated between 15 and 25 million dollars for this week long event”.

Wiza says the city and region stand to receive national attention from the sports world on a scale that's never been seen before.

“120 countries, we’re expecting over 200 media members on a international tournament of this magnitude.  It really is something we all should be very proud of.”

Wiza says the city's successful run hosting the USGA Girl's Championship two years ago helped lay the groundwork for this event.

This is the 2nd time Wisconsin has hosted the Senior Open, the first was about ten years ago at Whistling Straits. Dates for the 2023 event are June 29th thru July 2nd.
