Boulder Junction Triathlon Preparations Underfoot

Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce

Every year, hundreds of people gather in Boulder Junction to kick off the summer with a triathlon – the White Deer Endurance Race.

Last year, the event was cancelled in light of COVID-19.

But this year, it’s back on – with a few changes.

For one, this year’s event will have a duathlon format.

Instead of a paddle, bike and run, participants will run six kilometers, bike and then run again.

This is because the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requires permits to access its boat landings and forest trails.

It caps those permits at 50 people.

Theresa Smith is the executive director of Boulder Junction’s Chamber of Commerce.

“With this particular event, a lot of work goes into and it’s not something we would want to do for just 50 people,” she said.

Smith said the town is limiting the event to 200 racers this year. Already, 75 participants are signed up.

The event will be more socially distanced and will be hosted entirely outdoors in an effort to keep volunteers and participants safe and healthy.

Smith said the White Deer Endurance Race isn’t just exciting for visiting participants, it’s good for the entire community.

“It’s a really fun event for our community,” she said. “It helps the motels and the campgrounds with people coming up and going out to eat and doing all the things that they do when they travel to the area.”

The duathlon is on Saturday, May 15. Registration is open now. More information can be found here: https://boulderjct.org/white-deer-triathlon/
