Virtual Job Fair Seeks Workers in the North Central Wisconsin Region

PIXABAY.COM

The demand for workers is high across the Northwoods.

“One company is registered they have over 20 openings. That’s just one company,” said Jenny Kowalczyk, employment and training specialist and TAA case coordinator with the Department of Workforce Development.

She said there are more than 50 companies registered for Wednesday’s virtual job fair.

“I know a couple companies have raised their minimum wage increase just to get the job seekers there. There definitely is a need for job seekers for our businesses in the Northwoods,” said Kowalczyk.

The virtual job fair covers employers in nine counties as far south as Wood stretching all the way to the Upper Peninsula border with Vilas and Forest Counties.

The types of companies looking for workers varies greatly.

“We have anywhere from Walmart to work from home businesses like Americollect, Marshfield Clinic, Culvers. So just a wide-range of different employers,” she said.

The job fair is virtual. Kowalczyk recommends people registering ahead of time and learn the format of it before the actual event.

You can call her at 715-679-5531 to get registered. You can also find information online.

Even though it’s virtual, Kowalczyk says you should treat it like you would an in-person job fair.

“They should definitely have their resumes prepared. We’re open, Northern Advantage Job Center is open a couple days a week now. We can definitely help with that. They can also come in here and use any computers if they need it. But they should be prepping just as if they were going to an actual job fair or interview in case they get on the spot interviews or anything like that,” said Kowalczyk.

The virtual job fair is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m Wednesday.
