Memorial Day Ceremonies in the Northwoods

The Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs has a virtual remembrance on the Wisconsin Veterans Museum website.

Northwoods National Cemetery is holding a virtual ceremony. It can be viewed on the Fort Snelling National Cemetery Facebook page.

Oneida County

Harshaw: Saturday, May 29th at the Veterans Monument at Union Grove Cemetery in Harshaw (west of Rhinelander). Einar H. Ingman Motorcycle Procession leaves for the cemetery at 10:52 a.m. from American Legion Post 93. Ceremony set to start at 11:30 a.m.

Rhinelander: The Oneida County Veterans Council invites all citizens to join them Monday, May 31, 2021, as they pause to remember and honor fallen military heroes who fought to create, preserve, and defend the freedom of the United States of America. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Mike Webster Stadium in Rhinelander, which is right next to the new Hodag Dome. Preceding the ceremony, the following cemetery ceremonies are scheduled:

8:00 a.m.  VFW Honor Guard at Newbold Cemetery

8:30 a.m.  AmVets/American Legion Honor Guard at Northland Memorial Park

9:00 a.m.  VFW Honor Guard at Forest Home Cemetery

9:00 a.m.  AmVets/American Legion Honor Guard at Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery

Three Lakes: The public is invited to attend the observation of Memorial Day in Three Lakes on May 31, with a program at the Three Lakes Cemetery, preceded by the traditional solemn procession down Superior Street. The procession will begin at 10 a.m. near the Three Lakes Winery and will include the Legion Color Guard and the Three Lakes High School Band.

The cemetery service will begin at 10:15 a.m. with two featured speakers, Three Lakes High School graduating seniors Griffin Schroeder and Emily Fink. Schroeder has enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and Fink will join the Corps of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point. Names of servicemen buried in the cemetery who were killed in action will be read. The program will conclude with firing three volleys by the Three Lakes Legion Post Firing Squad, sounding of taps, and the national anthem by the band as the national flag at the cemetery is raised to full staff.

If the weather is bad the program will be canceled. If there is a question about a cancellation, call the Legion at (715) 546-3431.

Lincoln County

Tomahawk: Saturday, May 29th the Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard is holding a veteran’s memorial ceremony at the Prairie Rapids Cemetery starting at 9 am.

Monday, May 31st Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard is holding a number of ceremonies:

  • Veterans’ Memorial Park starting at 9:30 am.
  • Greenwood Cemetery starting at 10:45 am
  • Calvary Cemetery at 11:15 am
  • Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Skanawan 11:45 pm

Merrill: Monday May, 31st the Merrill VFW Post 1638 and other local organizations will be honoring Memorial Day starting at 10:30am with the Merrill City Band, followed with the Memorial Day Ceremony at 11am. Ceremony will be at the St Francis Cemetery, Veteran’s Section- South Thielman St. Merrill, WI. If inclement weather, we will be proceeding to the Northwoods Veterans Post Hall at 601 Johnson St. Merrill, WI. Following the ceremony, there will be brats and hot dogs for a free will donation held at the Northwoods Veterans Post (601 Johnson St. Merrill, WI) until 1:30 PM

Vilas County

Lac du Flambeau: The Lac du Flambeau American Legion Chigog/Skye Post 374 is holding a ceremony Monday, May 31st at 11:30 a.m. at Thunderbird Park.

Langlade County

Antigo: Memorial Day Parade: Floats and walking units will meet at 9:00 am at The Bay at Eastview Mediacal & Rehab. The parade will travel west on 5th Avenue to the Court House to the Vietnam Memorial.

Forest County

Mole Lake: Monday, May 31st at Mole Lake Cemetery from 11:15 am to noon.
