All Things Outdoors: Frances Hammerstrom

Fran Hammerstrom holds a golden eagle in March 1965. The bird had been injured and she obtained it under a federal permit from a western state and nursed it back to health. In the meantime, she trained it for falconry purposes.

Fran Hammerstrom holds a golden eagle in March 1965. The bird had been injured and she obtained it under a federal permit from a western state and nursed it back to health. In the meantime, she trained it for falconry purposes.

Frances Hammerstrom was a naturalist and ornithologist who studied under Aldo Leopold. Her work in Wisconsin developed conservation for birds.
