Jet Propulsion Lab

The final details are being assembled prior to the 9th Annual Earth Day Sustainability Fair held at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.

The fair looks at how the Northwoods environment and economy can be sustained. Spokesperson Ann Eshleman says the activities for the event are falling into place...

"...We're going to have a larger fair than we ever anticipated. We're concentrating on kids this year. We have 200 kids scheduled to come, we hope there are a lot more. Some are guests, but others are going to be exhibitors themselves who are going to be showing their science projects."

Keynote speaker is Dr. Steve Dunn of UW-Oshkosh talking about the sustainability end game, and he will also be on a roundtable discussion with other environmental educators. Nicolet Instructor Shane Teter will have a presentation called "Swamp Thing". A presentation on careers in sustainability is also features.

"...We have lots of exhibitors. We already have 30 registered. Many people wait until the last minute, so I anticipate we'll have many new ones who have never come before..."

There will be a horse logging demonstration, pollinator project plan, along with live music from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a recycled art competition. In addition, there's a silent auction to support next year's fair. Food is available through vendors.

The Fair is Monday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. More information is available by Googling Northwoods Sustainability Fair.
