Gov. Evers Grants Climate Change Task Force An Extension

Wisconsin.gov

The Govenor's Task Force on Climate Change is moving forward on plans to reduce the state's carbon imprint. Meeting virtually recently, Task Force Chair Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes said he was granted an extension by Governon Evers until October 31 to submit recommendations. Barnes says as the Task Force and it's subcommittees move forward, he wants to make environmental justice a key component of the discussion.

He says he wants to include the communities most affected by a changing climate...

"In Wisconsin we have 12 indigenous communities. These communities have long been stewards of the land. We recognize that they hold knowledge to coexist with the planet in a more peaceful and sustainable way. I want to encourage every subcommittee to engage with our indigenous communities as much as you can..."

Organic Valley is an organic food brand and independent cooperative of farmers based in La Farge. Organic Valley vice president Jerry McGeorge said Organic Valley has long been using renewable energy. He says that Organic Valley has worked towards having 100 percent of its business operations powered by solar energy.

Barnes says the Task Force will soon have a website ready for the public and task force members. Comments courtesy Wisconsin Eye.
