The Northern National art show opens next week at the Nicolet College gallery. It features almost ninety works from artists around the country, including several from Wisconsin and the Northwoods.
Lac du Flambeau artist Christine Alfery says after moving to the Northwoods from Madison…she finds national shows like this one offer important exposure…and a chance to be inspired by other artists.
“And it’s just a gem in the midst of all this –the fact that they host a national show in Rhinelander is just like, wow. What this gallery is doing for this area is exposing this area to so many different ideas and art.”
Land O Lakes artist Marilyn Annin has a large acrylic painting in this year’s show. She says the Northern National is a huge opportunity to gain perspective on her work.
“It’s very special for artists to have their work reviewed, and to bring in somebody that’s cold – I mean we’ve never met this juror. And so it’s really an honest assessment of what we’re doing.”
This year’s juror is a photography expert Linda Benedict-Jones from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. She has curated the show and will announce the winners at Tuesday night’s opening event.
The show will be up at the Nicolet College gallery through September 12th.
