A meeting last week in Rhinelander has put energy into a movement to revive the cancelled School of the Arts at Rhinelander.
The announcement came late last year of UW-Madison's withdrawl from the program that began in Rhinelander in 1964.
A discussion and idea sharing session was led by Myles Alexander of UW-Extension was held at ArtStart in Rhinelander. The historical value, economic benefits, and positive energy the school brought to the community were lauded. The group agreed to move in the direction of re-inventing the School of the Arts that would bring a variety of arts and instruction to the area at a future time.
Attendees at the meeting included ArtStart, Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce, Nicolet College, Arts Wisconsin, Downtown Rhinelander,Inc., Northern Arts Council,WXPR, the city of Rhinelander and former School of the Arts organizers. Leaders say anyone interested in helping out to develop the future event should contact ArtStart in Rhinelander.
