Scouts To Drop Off Bags For Food Pantry Donations

Samoset Council

The Boy Scouts of America, Samoset Council, is partnering with local residents to fight against hunger in North Central Wisconsin during the annual Scouting for Food initiative.

More than 6,000 Scouts will canvass area neighborhoods on April 6th to distribute food-collection bags to homes. The following weekend, April 13th, Scouts will pick up the bags filled with non-perishable items and deliver them to local food pantries throughout the community.

Spokesperson Leanna Holzem talks about the effort...

"...Our scouts go out and canvass in the 13-county region that we have. And on Saturday, April 6, we have them distribute these bright yellow bags courtesy of Trigs, to put on the front doors...in our residential areas. They have a week to fill it with whatever food they would like to donate. Then our scouts come back the next week, pick (the bags) up and distribute them to the local food pantries...."

In 2017, 40 million Americans—including 6.5 million children— lived in households that were food insecure, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. More information is at samoset.org
