Bicycle rides this weekend will provide a chance to help fund more bike trails in the Northwoods.
The 5th annual Septimber Ride Saturday is a scenic trail ride on the beautiful Three Eagle Trail or a 50K Northwoods Road Ride on country roads. The ride will start and finish at the Tribute Brewing Company near Eagle River. Food and refreshments will be provided at the end of the ride. The southern terminus of the ride is at the Three Lakes Winery.
Great Headwaters Trails Executive Director Jeff Currie says riders of different abilities have an option..
"....100K, which is basically 60 miles, that also takes people through Three Lakes and to the Winery. And a 60K option that would be about 40 miles that people can take and that also goes through Three Lakes...."
Currie says registration is open, but riders can walk in and register. Both rides start early Saturday morning. Proceeds from this ride will support the Great Headwaters Trails Foundation in the development of bike trails for eastern Vilas County.
On Sunday, there's a fundraiser at the Dairy Queen in Eagle River. 25 percent of all sales that day to the Great Headwaters Trails for trail development. Currie says the money will help with the next trail development named the River Trail..
"...which will connect Eagle River to St. Germain. That basically would connect Eagle River all the way up to Mercer when that trail is in place because the Heart of Vilas trail already does that from St. Germain to Mercer. Lots of ways for people to enjoy bike riding this weekend..."
