40,000 Cranberry Fest Visitors Expected In Eagle River

More than 40,000 visitors are expected this weekend for Eagle River's annual Cranberry Fest, celebrating 40 years.

Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Director Kim Emerson was asked to describe Cranberry Fest to someone who didn't know what the event was about...

"...Cranberry Fest is a festival celebrating the state fruit. The wonderful cranberry. It is activities throughout Eagle River. At the Vilas County Fairgrounds we have a large arts and crafts show. There are cranberries and many different flavors of craisins. There's music, there's foods with cranberries, without cranberries..."

...and the list of foods and events goes on and on. Emerson says they still need volunteers and to contact the Chamber office to sign up.

While much of the activity is at the Vilas County Fairgrounds, downtown Eagle River has a number of activities going on as well. At the First Congregational Church is a fiber artist and weavers show and sale along with a luncheon. There's events at the Olson Memorial Library. At the Eagle River Chamber office is the Marsh and Wine Tasting Tours, an opportunity to go out to a working cranberry marsh. Emerson says reservations for the tours are recommended. There's a website where the entire event is shown, that's at eagle river dot org forward slash cranberry dash fest.
