Eight Eagle River Financial Institutions Raising Money For Food Programs

Feed Our Rural Kids

Eight Eagle River financial institutions are contributing to helping feed Vilas county kids and supporting other local non-profits. FORK, or Feed Our Rural Kids, announced another effort, CASH FOR KIDS, which provides a way for the public to help contribute.

CASH FOR KIDS Chair Keith Kentala said it was first seen as a way to fund FORK, which provides meals to food insecure kids when school is out. But as it evolved, the effort turned to fund all the food support agencies in the Eagle River area as he explains...

"Anyone can come into the banks, the banks in Eagle River and donate to CASHFORKIDS. Those banks will collect those funds and at the end of the month, it's going to be a month-long campaign. Early in September the campaign ends. We'll collect the funds from the banks and distribute those equally among the eight support programs in the Eagle River area...."

Kentala says they can donate cash or check at the bank or go to FORK's website at feed feedourruralkids.org)...

"Each bank has been challenged to come up with enough funds to supply one thousand meals. Based on Feeding America and their calculations, a typical meal in the Northwoods would cost $3.55. If you do the math....about $28,000 is the fundraising goal for the next month..."

Among the organizations getting funds are the Vilas Food Pantry, The Locker, FORK Cares, Meals NOW, The Room, Jump Start, and the Weekend Backpack Program.

More information is at the FORK website or Eagle River area financial institutions.
