Ironwood's first cannabis dispensary attracts customers from across the region

The City of Ironwood has its first cannabis store. It’s attracting customers from all over the region.

Around 200 people braved the winter weather earlier this week to attend the grand opening of a new cannabis store in Ironwood.

Higher Love is located less than a mile away from the Wisconsin border, where marijuana is currently illegal.

“We knew that Ironwood would be the western most point of the state,” says Lindsay Martwick, the regional manager for the store’s locations. “We really wanted to be able to provide that service to the customers that are coming from other areas.”

Customers come to Higher Love stores from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota and other parts of the Midwest.

Martwick says the stores appeal to customers who are happy with Michigan’s marijuana tax profile and are looking for a cannabis store closer to home.

“It’s a product that the community wants, that the community is excited for,” Martwick says.

Higher Love is the first cannabis store in Ironwood. The store has five other locations in the Upper Peninsula.
