Americans have not returned to roads which has contributed to lower than usual gas prices. That assessment from AAA(Triple A) Wisconsin spokesperson Nick Jarmusz. He says across the nation, the average price per gallon is $2.17...
"Here in Wisconsin were a little lower than that on a statewide average. The northern part of the state is closer to the national level than the southern part of the state is...."
Jarmusz says nationally and internationally crude oil production is stable, including American-based refineries. He says the story is about demand....
"We're seeing demand continuing to be suppressed due to the COVID pandemic. The summer travel season is winding down, even though(summer driving) gave demand a bit of a boost. We're still heading in to a fall season were fewer people are going to be driving both recreationally and fewer people driving for work...."
Nearly 40 states saw minimal movement at the pump. State gas price averages decreased by as much as four cents in Michigan, among the largest drops. Meanwhile, a dozen states saw an increase at the pump including Wisconsin, about four cents per gallon higher.
AAA reports a healthy supply amid lower seasonal demand is paving the way for one of the lowest annual gas price averages this decade. Today’s national average is three cents cheaper than last month and 45 cents less than a year ago.
