Rural School Task Force Meets First In Rhinelander

rhinelander.k12.wi.us

Rhinelander  will host the first of four statewide public hearings on the future of rural schools.

Chaired by state Representative Rob Swearingen of Rhinelander, the task force was called by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to look at challenges unique to rural education.

Swearingen says the Task Force is the result of a visit to the Capitol by Rhinelander school district representatives. He said the visit made an impression on Voss...

?

"..and at that time he indicated he was willing to put together a Task Force to specifically address the problems facing rural schools in Wisconsin. I'm happy the speaker followed through with his commitment..."

The public hearing in Rhinelander will feature superintendents from Northwoods school districts...

?

"...we are asking for input, certainly from the school district administrators, officials. I want input from the parents because they're a very important part of this equation, as well as input from the business community...."

The Rhinelander meeting is set for Wednesday, October 23 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Rhinelander high school. Swearingen says the hearing is open to the public and will accept public input if time permits.
