Drunk Driving Crackdown Coming Before Labor Day

Law enforcement agencies statewide are teaming up to put extra emphasis on "drive sober or get pulled over.

Chief David Jaeger from the Minocqua Police Department  says  the numbers of fatalities from alcohol related crashes has dropped in the last decade...

".....there has been a significant reduction in related crashes. Since 2003 (fatalities) have dropped from 348 in 2003 to 185 last year, a 47 percent reduction...."

Injuries from alcohol related crashes fell about 59 percent in the same time period.

He says law enforcement will be having extra patrols on the roads during the designated time frame. Jaeger says drunk driving crashes are wholly preventable...

".....if they just designate a driver or many times if they let the bartenders know(they are the designated driver) they will let the drivers drink soda through the night...."

A drunk driving arrest can result in expensive penalties and inconvenience, jail time and embarrassment.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign begins Friday and runs through September 1.
