The Department of Transportation is hosting a meeting Tuesday(3/17) evening to spell out its plan for improvements to U.S. 51 between 3rd Street and Wisconsin 70 east in the towns of Woodruff and Arbor Vitae.

A Project Manager for the D.O.T., Jed Peters, says the meeting is to present their preferred alternative that addresses Highway 51's pavement and operational needs.

He says they would like to reconstruct Highway 51 to five lanes similar to what was done in Minocqua...

?

"....our preferred alternative is looking at doing this where we left off this last year, right around that Margaret Street-Third Avenue area in Woodruff, and going through to Tuckaway Road in Arbor Vitae...."

He says major work is also proposed along a busy intersection...

?

"....and then as part of that we would be reconstructing the Highway 51 and Highway 47 intersection, making some geometric improvements there. Make it easier for our oversized, overweight loads to get through that intersection...."

It also includes reconstructing the U.S. 51 and state Highway 47 intersection. The D.O.T. s seeking input on the plan. They would like to begin construction in 2018.

The meeting is Tuesday, March 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the AV-W school library. A formal presentation occurs at 5:15 p.m.
