Community Foundation Donates To Hodag Park Project

Marleen Lang Bryan

The Rhinelander Community Foundation has given $25,000 toward the remodeling of the bathroom building at Hodag Park next to the Little League fields. Hodag Park is the large city park on the shores of Boom Lake.

In March, the city Parks, Buildings and Grounds committee approved the concept of the $50,000 renovation.

Community Foundation Coordinator Sue Makris talks about the donation...

"....The Rhinelander Community Foundation has just given a grant to the City of Rhinelander in the amount of $25,000 for the bathroom renovation project at Hodag Park, adding to the money the city has designated for the project...."

The donation is in conjunction with a donation from another group, Friends of Rhinelander Parks, to cover the full cost of renovating the building. Architect Jeff Musson has drawn plans for the project.

Makris says they have a special fund set up for the project...

"....There is a restricted fund within the Rhinelander Community Foundation that is called the Hodag Park Improvement Fund. When we say restricted fund, we mean donors give to that fund knowing that that money only will go to Hodag Park...."

Makris says this follows the mission of the Foundation...

"...It is part of the mission of the Community Foundation. They're working to facilitate charitable giving and also to enhance quality of living in the Rhinelander area by supporting project that have an impact in our community....."

Makris says several funds have already been established to benefit the community, allowing donors to connect with causes that are meaningful to them.
